Listening for the calling

Stanton began piano lessons at age six and began writing songs at age fourteen.

Playing and composing continued as a hobby while majoring in chemistry at Georgia Tech and completing an MBA at the University of Georgia. After completing his degrees, Stanton worked in consulting and insurance for five years.

A turning point for Stanton happened when he reached a place of “career surrender” at age thirty. His life trajectory changed from “striving to achieve” to “abiding to receive” as he longed to hear God’s voice and follow his leading. This led to ten years working in financial planning followed by a step of faith to move into full-time ministry, founding the nonprofit Music to Light the World in 2004.

Music to Light the World spread peace and hope to listeners around the globe for twenty-two years. The ministry was a force of generosity, donating 75,000 CDs and digital music gifts to cancer patients and others in need of hope and healing. The ministry also supported orphans in Zambia, providing both practical support and musical inspiration.

In 2019, Stanton earned his Professional Certificate in Composing and Orchestrating for Film and TV from the Berklee School of Music to expand his skillset in composing for media.

In 2025, Stanton opened a new chapter, winding down Music to Light the World and establishing Sky Whisper Sound with the same mission, to glorify God and refresh the soul through Scripture inspired instrumental music. He continues to seek out and listen to the truths found in God’s Word for inspiration and guidance in composing his signature melodies.

A note about my compositions…

The piano has been a refuge throughout my life. A place where I could sit down and step away from life’s busyness.

When I began composing instrumentals I wanted them to convey a sense of God’s peace and hope. As people began to share powerful stories about how the songs were impacting their lives, I realized that Scripture inspired piano was a unique way to share both my story and God’s heart.

Through the years, God has helped me hear Scripture as melody. About half the time this happens lyrically, meaning the piano is ‘singing’ the words from a verse. Other times, a theme is being expressed through the music.

From the time composing Scripture inspired piano was just an idea to my latest pieces, I’ve always had a strong sense that this was something much bigger than me and my abilities. My prayer as I compose is that everyone who encounters the music will sense God’s presence and listen for His voice.

My two favorite quotes are “The aim and final end of all music should be unto the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul” (J.S. Bach), and “Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive” (from Wild at Heart by John Eldredge).

My prayer is that you will experience an encounter with the true, living God, and that you will find life, peace, and rest in him as you abide in his love.
